Supporting your YMCA
Click on a topic to read more about it.
Today, the Licking County Family YMCA instills the same values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in its members as it did 131 years ago. Your membership support of the YMCA insures that these values continue to touch all of our members for the next hundred years. As members of the Licking County Family YMCA, many of us have our own piece in the Y story. Whether we work out at the YMCA every day, or we grew up participating in YMCA programs as kids, we know how much this organization offers to our community.
The Licking County Family YMCA continually reaches out to the children, families, and seniors of our community with a wide array of character building programs. We are much more than a fitness facility-we are a community-based, social service organization. The Y offers infant, toddler & preschool care, after-school activities for kids, a teen program, older active adult programming, a senior walking program and warm-water arthritis classes.
For many of the individuals participating in these programs, the Licking County Family YMCA offers financial aid scholarships. Without the help of financial aid, many people could not afford to take part in our programs. Every year we hold an annual campaign in order to help cover the cost of these scholarships and youth programs. In other words, every contribution to the campaign allows someone, who could otherwise not afford to, take advantage of all that the YMCA has to offer.
Many people mistakenly believe that their membership fees support all of the programs at the YMCA, and, therefore, they do not give any other support. However, membership fees only cover the cost of operating our facilities and programs. The cost of operating many of our social service programs and the scholarships we award are not completely covered by fees. It is only through the generosity of the people who believe that these programs are important to the quality of life in our community that these efforts are possible. We could not keep building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities without your support.
Volunteer
Volunteerism is the backbone of the YMCA. Without selfless volunteers, many activities and services could not take place. Volunteers serve on committees, task forces and the Board of Directors; volunteering at all levels including programming, supervision, and clerical areas.
The YMCA is a membership organization. Each member has a vested interest in the affairs of the YMCA. We need and encourage volunteer support and participation. Please contact a member of our staff for information on how you can become a YMCA volunteer!
Friends of the Y
Each year the Licking County Family YMCA provides financial assistance to over 850 individuals including 575 children who would otherwise not be able to afford the YMCA experience. Our YMCA also provides over 3,000 children the opportunity to go to camp and participate in youth sport activities. United Way contributions account for only a small portion of the monies needed each year for these individuals. Without contributions from people like you, we are unable to provide these services. For more information on how you can become a Friend of the Y, contact the Associate Executive Director.
Building the Future—
Brick by Brick
The Brick by Brick program is a unique opportunity for members to become a part of the rich history of the Licking County Family YMCA. Your brick can memorialize a family member, recognize your service club or give a lasting birthday, retirement, or anniversary gift. With the purchase of a brick, you help build the future of our YMCA. Each brick costs $100. Over 90% of the funds raised directly benefit YMCA capital projects.
Donor Tree
In the foyer of our main entrance is our Donor Tree. This Donor Tree represents individuals and corporations who have been generous supporters of the Licking County Family YMCA. This giving club acknowledges those individuals and groups who have a record of cumulative giving over several years. Donor contributions are recognized by gold, silver or bronze leaves. Donations to the Friends of the Y campaigns, capital campaign gifts and endowment fund gifts are all included. For more information on joining our Donor Tree, contact the Licking County Family YMCA Executive Director.
Heritage Club
The good you do now, lives on forever.
What if the good you do could last longer than the here and now?
So much of what you do becomes part of the lives you touch. The example you set. The traits you see in you and seek to reflect. But what if it were possible to have the good you do live on forever?
That's the mission of the Heritage Club, to enable men and women who share the YMCA's ideals and traditions to ensure this valued heritage continues on for generations. The YMCA Heritage Club's purpose is to encourage thoughtful gifts as a primary means of building a strong endowment capable of providing lasting support for the YMCA's mission and then to recognize members whose leadership, service and devotion to the YMCA have created this heritage.
How do I qualify for Heritage Club Membership?
The Heritage Club is composed of individuals from all backgrounds, communities and walks of life who have made an outright or planned gift to the YMCA's endowment fund in one of the following ways:
An outright gift of cash - In this way, each member not only benefits from the good that will be done but current income tax savings.
An outright gift of appreciated assets - contributing such items as stock or property owned for longer than one year, you would receive a charitable deduction equal to the current value of the assets while avoiding capital gains taxes.
A life insurance gift - Naming the YMCA as a primary or secondary beneficiary of your policy paves the way for a large future gift. Should you wish to contribute a life insurance policy that is no longer needed to protect current beneficiaries, you could realize substantial income tax deductions.
A gift through your will - You may wish to consider including the YMCA in your will or living trust. In this way, a fixed amount, specific asset or percentage of your estate may be set aside as bequests and qualify for estate deductions.
A gift made through a charitable trust or annuity - Creating a charitable trust or annuity provides life income for yourself and /or others. With all or a portion of your gift eventually directed to the YMCA, you could receive a charitable deduction.
Why should I give? While there are many reasons as there are Heritage Club members, perhaps the most common is "just because it feels good."
