YMCA Symbols

The Licking County Family YMCA  is Licking County’s premier volunteer organization. YMCA members come from all walks of life, with different ethnic and religious backgrounds, yet they all have a common goal, to enhance our community. We help each other strive toward developing a strong self-image, confidence, fair play, and a purpose to value others. YMCA activities and programs enhance family relationships, value local community participation, and improve physical and mental fitness.

YMCA Symbols

When visiting our facility, you will notice various emblems and symbols throughout the building. These symbols represent the YMCA’s history and core values. When you see these emblems, you will know that 150 years of YMCA experience is behind our programs and services.

This official emblem has represented the YMCA for over 150 years. It was developed to express the purpose and direction of YMCAs everywhere. This symbol is known as the “John” logo.  The circle represents the oneness of humankind and encircles the Greek symbol for Christ:  Chi and Rho (XP).  A Bible is open to John 17:21, "That they all may be one," an expression of ecumenical purpose.  The triangle is superimposed on the original emblem.  The inner ring symbolizes friendship and love without end among individuals.

In 1994, the YMCA of USA launched a character development plan that focused on caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. While positive values have always been part of the YMCA, this effort provided Ys a better method to develop the core values demonstrated in their leadership, operations, and programs. The Licking County Family YMCA implements these values throughout our YMCA.
